David J. Hartzell
Dr. Hartzell is the N.C. Real Estate Educational Foundation Professor of Finance at the Business School. He was formerly vice president at Salomon Brothers Inc. in New York, where his primary focus was on institutional real estate finance and investments. He also worked as a research associate for The Urban Institute and as a financial economist for the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of Currency. Dr. Hartzell served as president of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association in 2000.
David Stevens
Mr. Stevens is the Associate Dean for Business & Operations and Chief Financial Officer at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. In this role, he oversees all financial and administrative functions at the Business School and has been actively involved with construction of the McColl Business School building and the Rizzo Executive Education Conference Center. Before joining the Business School in 1995, Mr. Stevens spent 16 years at Digital Equipment Corporation where he held financial management positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of sales, service, marketing and manufacturing.
James W. Dean, Jr.
James W. Dean Jr. is the dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler. He also is a professor of organizational behavior and a Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Scholar. He previously served as senior associate dean for academic affairs, associate dean of Executive Development, and associate dean of the MBA Program. He has participated in research, teaching and/or consulting projects with many companies, including ALCOA, Boeing, Corning, DuPont, ExxonMobil, GE, Honeywell and the U.S. Navy.
Jeff Allred
Mr. Allred is a partner in the corporate finance group of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarbourgh, LLP, a full service law firm. He is the former CEO of Griffeon Group, LLC, a strategic advisory firm, and before founding Griffeon, he served eight years as President and COO and a member of the Board of Directors of Premiere Global Services, Inc. (NYSI: PGI), a global provider of on-demand communications technologies. While at Premiere, Mr. Allred was responsible for the execution and integration of over 20 strategic business acquisitions and for the operation of a $50M+ strategic venture investment program that generated a four fold cash return on a portfolio of 16 investments in under four years. Prior to Premiere, Mr. Allred practiced corporate law as a partner in several nationally recognized firms, including Nelson Mullins.
Leonard Wood
Mr. Wood is the founder of the Wood Center for Real Estate Development as a part of the Kenan-Flagler Business School. In 1998 he founded Wood Partners, LLC and at the time of Mr. Wood’s retirement in November 2007, Wood Partners had started, since inception, over 38,000 multi-family units representing an investment of more than $5.3 billion. Prior to founding Wood Partners, Mr. Wood joined Trammell Crow Residential as Partner in charge of North Florida in 1982. Mr. Wood is immediate past-Chairman and continues to serve on the Board of the Multi-Family Leadership Board of NAHB. He is an active member in the Alexis de Tocqueville Society (United Way) and is a member of its Ivan Allen Society. He also serves on the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.
W. Clay Hamner
Dr. Hamner is Frank Hawkins Kenan Professor of Private Equity and Director for the Center of Entrepreneurial Studies at the Business School. He is also the chairman of Montrose Capital Corporation, which he founded in 1982. Montrose Capital Corporation has owned or held the majority interest in over 40 businesses and made numerous venture capital and real estate investments.
Dr. Hamner serves or has served on the Board of Directors of numerous companies and funds including Wendy’s International, Triton Group, Interstate Johnson Lane, The Pantry, Giga Media, and the Infinity Israel China Fund.
