The company’s warehouse and delivery systems caught the attention of Animal Supply chairman Randy Reber, who said the facilities ensure accuracy and on-time delivery. The Greensboro, N.C.-based company distributes pet food and pet products throughout North and South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Ophthalmic startup Clearside Biomedical and Hatteras Venture Partners announced they have launched the company with a $4,000,000 Series A venture financing to fund the initial development of Clearside Biomedical’s ocular microinjection platform and initial clinical testing of Clearside Biomedical’s lead product for Macular Edema and Retinal Vein Occlusion. Clearside Biomedical’s proprietary ocular microinjection platform has been designed to non-surgically deliver drugs to an area of the eye referred to as the suprachoroidal space which allows a novel way of dosing of therapeutics to the tissues of the posterior segment of the eye and retina.

Cardiac monitor maker iRhythm looks to insiders for $6.5M

iRhythm Technologies, maker of a recently-launched cardiac monitoring device, has raised an additional $6.5 million in a first round of funding from existing investors, bringing the two-year-old round’s total to $19 million. Based in San Francisco, the company will use the money to more widely market its product after getting the Food and Drug Administration’s stamp of approval earlier this year.
It should be enough to push iRhythm to break even, the company says. All of its past investors participated in the extension, including Mohr Davidow Ventures, Synergy Life Science Partners, UNC Kenan-Flagler Private Equity Fund and Stanford University. The device, called the Zio, was developed at Stanford.
